BaseMTG is an independent Magic: The Gathering publication with one goal: give players the deck guides, set reviews, and card values they actually need, without hype, sponsored bias, or corporate spin.
Our mission
Magic moves fast: new sets, meta shifts, card price swings, tournament results. BaseMTG exists to cut through the noise and tell players what matters, quickly and accurately.
We believe Commander and Standard deserve the same depth of coverage as blockbuster games, without the PR spin. Our reviews are independent, our deck guides are built from real tournament decklists, and our news is verified before it goes live.

No paid coverage, no sponsored editorial. Set reviews and deck guides say plainly what is strong, what is overhyped, and what costs too much for what it does.

We write for people who actually play games, not shareholders. Every guide, news story, and review starts with 'what does the player need to know?'

Release dates, banlist changes, Wizards of the Coast statements, tournament results, and card prices are checked against primary sources before publication. We correct errors in place and note what changed.
