MTG Release Schedule 2026-2027: Every Set and Date

MTG release schedule 2026 and 2027, short version: Star Trek in mid-November is the last set of 2026, and Wizards has already dated every 2027 release, from Nauctis: The Sunken Realm in February to a Universes Beyond set it hasn't named, in November. Below are both years in order, which dates are firm and which come only from third parties, the Commander products around the sets, and links to our coverage of each one.

2026 Standard-Legal Set Schedule

Seven sets are Standard-legal in 2026: Lorwyn Eclipsed (Jan 23), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Mar 6), Secrets of Strixhaven (Apr 24), Marvel Super Heroes (Jun 26), The Hobbit (Aug 14), Reality Fracture (Oct 2), and Star Trek (Nov 13). Notably, 2026 has no Standard rotation, so all of these stack on top of the existing legal pool rather than replacing older sets, until the next rotation, which follows the Prerelease of Nauctis: The Sunken Realm (release February 5, 2027).

Releases land six to nine weeks apart: Lorwyn Eclipsed to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is six weeks, Secrets of Strixhaven to Marvel Super Heroes is nine. 2026 mixes three original-setting sets (Lorwyn Eclipsed, Secrets of Strixhaven, Reality Fracture) with four Universes Beyond sets, and Marvel Super Heroes and The Hobbit landed back to back.

Reality Fracture is the in-universe set for the current arc. Wizards pitches it this way: "Jace has reshaped the Multiverse into his ideal vision, changing familiar heroes, spells, and strategies into distorted reflections." The set prints colorshifted versions of the "Lorwyn 5" planeswalkers. Ajani, Liliana, Garruk and Chandra each appear in two colors (Ajani Resolute is white, Ajani Unrelenting is red), while both Jace cards stay blue.

Commander-focused products sit around the Standard sets. Lorwyn Eclipsed, Secrets of Strixhaven, Marvel Super Heroes, Reality Fracture and Star Trek each come with their own Commander decks. Beyond those, the Goblin Storm Secret Lair Commander deck launched on May 18, the five Foundations Commander decks released on October 2 alongside Reality Fracture, and Mystery Booster Commander Edition makes its worldwide debut inside Festival in a Box: Atlanta 2026, a $249.99 Secret Lair bundle that went on sale on October 19.

2027 Release Schedule

Wizards calls 2026 "the transition year." For 2027 it announced three Magic Multiverse sets and three Universes Beyond sets, "alternating between the two," and its July 17 timeline put a date on all six. Four have names. The August and November slots carry only the label "Unannounced Universes Beyond" on Wizards' own graphic.

Nauctis opens the year and moves Standard with it. Wizards' rule is that after the first premier set Prerelease of the year, "the six oldest sets in Standard rotate out," and its Arena formats article puts that on February 2, 2027, "alongside Nauctis: The Sunken Realm Prerelease events." Wilds of Eldraine through Duskmourn leave; our Standard rotation 2027 guide goes set by set. Marvel Darkhold Destiny took the April slot when Wizards announced it on October 10, with Commander decks in the lineup and preorders open the same day; our Darkhold Destiny release date guide has every product and price. Kamigawa: Titanbreach is a crossover of two Magic planes: "When an Omenpath opens above the neon-lit skies of Towashi, a huge mass of Ikoria crashes through." Zhalfir brings back Teferi Akosa on his home plane.

The two unnamed slots are where the guessing lives. Star City Games' 2027 schedule, posted October 10, still lists both as "Unannounced Universes Beyond Set," and so did MTG Wiki's upcoming-events list when we checked on October 22. Prediction lists for those slots are guesses until Wizards says otherwise, and we leave them off this page.

Paper Prerelease dates are the soft spot for the whole year. WPN, where stores schedule their events, has a product page only for Darkhold so far; Nauctis, Kamigawa: Titanbreach and Zhalfir sit in its "Coming Soon" menu with no page behind them, so any Prerelease date you see for those three is a third-party estimate.

Spoiler Season Coverage

Spoiler season for an upcoming set usually opens a few weeks before release, as Wizards of the Coast and content-creator preview partners reveal cards in scheduled batches.

Card previews come from two places that carry different weight: official Wizards of the Coast channels (the main preview stream, official social accounts, wizards.com articles) and a rotating roster of content creators who each get a small batch of cards to reveal on their own channels. Both count as confirmed once posted. A card leaked outside either channel before its scheduled reveal isn't confirmed until an official source posts it, and we don't treat it as real before then.

Set Review Breakdowns

Full set reviews (mechanics, Standard playability, Commander build-arounds, and Limited evaluation) get linked here as each set gets covered in depth. A useful set review separates three questions that get conflated too often: whether a card is powerful in a vacuum, whether it actually fits the current Standard metagame's top archetypes, and whether it's a reasonable Commander build-around outside constructed entirely. A card can score low on the first two and still be a good pickup for the third.

Universes Beyond Crossover Sets

Four of the seven 2026 Standard-legal sets are Universes Beyond crossovers built around licensed IP outside Magic itself: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Marvel Super Heroes, The Hobbit, and Star Trek. These sets tend to pull in crossover-collector demand well beyond the core Magic audience, which shows up in card-market coverage as much as in competitive-play coverage.

A Universes Beyond set is still fully Standard-legal and fully supported for constructed play, exactly like a set built around Magic's own setting; the crossover label describes the art and IP license, not the card pool's legal status. The main practical difference for buyers is demand shape: a crossover set often sees stronger early collector and casual-Commander demand than an original-setting set of similar power level, since it's drawing interest from fans of the source franchise who may not otherwise follow every Magic release.

Our Take

A schedule page earns its place by being right about dates, so the dates here come from Wizards' own pages, and Scryfall agrees with every 2026 date. The part worth watching is the mix. After a 2026 with four Universes Beyond sets out of seven, Wizards has said 2027 splits evenly. On r/magicTCG, the organizer of a community format called Planar Standard wrote in September that they excluded Universes Beyond sets from it because "UW and UB sets were already set up in an alternating fashion." We think the even split is the right call. It keeps the buying and deckbuilding calendar predictable, and a crossover set can be planned around instead of braced for. For 2027 that means one thing in practice: plan around the release dates, which are Wizards', and not around Prerelease weekends or rumored names for the August and November sets, which aren't yet.
