Azorius Momo Standard Deck Guide and 60-Card Decklist

Momo, Friendly Flier, Sage of the Skies and Starfield Shepherd fanned out on a dark background, the deck's key fliers

Azorius Momo is a white-blue flyers deck whose opening sequence is its clearest identity: Momo, Friendly Flier on turn one, then Springleaf Drum and Sage of the Skies on turn two. That line can put a pair of 2/3 flying lifelinkers into the air quickly, giving the deck an early damage race to manage.

The list then uses warp, return effects, card draw, and +1/+1 counters. This guide covers the 60-card list, sideboard, core interactions, and 2027 rotation.

TL;DR: Azorius Momo's win route is to establish flying attackers early, then add cards or counters while keeping the air attack moving. Momo discounts the first qualifying flying creature spell during each of your turns, while Springleaf Drum enables the turn-two Sage of the Skies copy sequence. Starfield Shepherd, Nurturing Pixie, Quantum Riddler, Daydream, Practiced Offense, and Abandoned Air Temple add value and pressure. Wizards ranked it fifth at 3.3% of the winner's metagame in data from August 18 through August 31, 2026, before Reality Fracture released.

PATCH: Updated Oct 6, 2026, clarified that Momo's growth trigger counts flying creatures you control.

What Is Azorius Momo in Standard? (quick answer)

Azorius Momo is a white-blue Standard deck that uses flying creatures, Springleaf Drum, and Momo, Friendly Flier's cost reduction to develop an aerial board early. Its main route is to attack through the air, then use Daydream, Nurturing Pixie, Quantum Riddler, Practiced Offense, and Abandoned Air Temple to add counters, cards, or extra creature entries. The published list has 60 main-deck cards and 15 sideboard cards.

Key Takeaways

  • Wizards ranked Azorius Momo fifth at 3.3% of the winner's metagame in data from more than 400 successful decks from Magic Online Standard Challenges plus RCQ lists dated August 18 through August 31, 2026. Winner's metagame share combines popularity and net match wins, not a win rate.
  • The opening to recognize is Momo, Friendly Flier on turn one, followed by Springleaf Drum and Sage of the Skies on turn two. Sage can copy itself because Drum was another spell cast that turn.
  • Momo reduces the first non-Lemur creature spell with flying cast during each of your turns by {1}. That reduction applies to the deck's qualifying flying creatures, including a warped Starfield Shepherd.
  • The deck's win route is flying combat, supported by Momo's temporary +1/+1 bonuses, Daydream's +1/+1 counter, Practiced Offense, Abandoned Air Temple, and extra cards from Quantum Riddler or Steamcore Scholar.
  • At the early 2027 rotation, six Standard sets leave: Wilds of Eldraine, The Lost Caverns of Ixalan, Murders at Karlov Manor, Outlaws of Thunder Junction with The Big Score, Bloomburrow, and Duskmourn: House of Horror.
  • Floodfarm Verge, Steamcore Scholar, Nurturing Pixie, Rest in Peace, and Disdainful Stroke are the listed cards that leave because all their Standard-set printings are in leaving sets. Every other listed nonbasic card has at least one printing in a set that stays.

Overview: What Is Azorius Momo in Standard?

Wizards' Metagame Mentor ranked Azorius Momo fifth in the winner's metagame at 3.3%. The analysis covered more than 400 successful decks from Magic Online Standard Challenges and RCQ lists from August 18 through August 31, 2026. The share combines popularity and net match wins, not a standalone win percentage.

The data predates Reality Fracture, which was released on October 2, 2026. There is no published Reality Fracture-era result data for Azorius Momo in the supplied source material, so this guide makes no claim about how that release changed the deck.

The official description highlights the opening and a second wave of value. Momo can reduce Starfield Shepherd's warp cost, and the Shepherd searches for a basic Plains or a creature with mana value 1 or less. That can find Nurturing Pixie, which can return a qualifying permanent you control to your hand. Quantum Riddler and Daydream offer another entry-value line, while Practiced Offense and Abandoned Air Temple add counters. Wizards' description says the fliers can slip past the ground blockers Mono-Green Landfall relies on (see our Mono-Green Landfall guide).

Why Azorius Momo Works

The list has three connected mechanisms: an early cost-reduced copy sequence, value from warp and return effects, and a flying board that turns extra cards and counters into damage.

Momo, Drum, and the Sage opening

Momo, Friendly Flier costs {W} and has flying. Its reduction applies to the first non-Lemur creature spell with flying cast during each turn, reducing that spell by {1}. Springleaf Drum costs {1}, and its ability taps the Drum and an untapped creature you control to add one mana of any color. If Drum is cast before Sage of the Skies, Sage's cast trigger sees another spell that turn and copies Sage as a token. Sage has flying and lifelink. Each other flying creature you control entering also gives Momo +1/+1 until end of turn.

Warp turns one creature into several jobs

eoe-37eoe-37 card arteoe-37Shop on TCGplayer Starfield Shepherd has flying, costs {3}{W}{W}, and searches on entry for a basic Plains or a creature card with mana value 1 or less. Its warp cost is {1}{W}; warp exiles it at the next end step, and it can be cast from exile later. Momo can reduce the generic part because the Shepherd is a non-Lemur creature with flying. Nurturing Pixie costs {W} and has flying. Its entry can return a target non-Faerie, nonland permanent you control, and Pixie gets a +1/+1 counter if one was returned. Starfield Shepherd fits that restriction, so it can return to hand after finding the Pixie.

Draw and counters keep the air attack moving

eoe-72eoe-72 card arteoe-72Shop on TCGplayer Quantum Riddler costs {3}{U}{U}, has flying, and draws a card when it enters. With one or fewer cards in hand, its static ability adds one card to each draw event. Daydream exiles a creature you control, then returns it with a +1/+1 counter, so it can target Quantum Riddler and make it enter again. Daydream has flashback for {2}{W}, then is exiled. Practiced Offense puts a +1/+1 counter on each creature controlled by the target player, then gives one target creature double strike or lifelink until end of turn; its flashback is {1}{W}. Abandoned Air Temple enters tapped unless you control a basic land, taps for {W}, and can put a counter on each creature you control for {3}{W} and a tap.

Momo, Friendly Flier, Sage of the Skies and Starfield Shepherd card faces side by side on a navy background Momo, Sage of the Skies and Starfield Shepherd, the three flyers most of the deck's sequences run through.

Step-by-Step: How to Play Azorius Momo

1. Establish the first two land drops. Momo needs {W}. Floodfarm Verge always taps for {W} but makes {U} only if you control a Plains or Island. Hallowed Fountain can enter untapped for 2 life, Multiversal Passage becomes the basic land type you choose, and Starting Town enters untapped through turn three. Our mana base guide covers how to count colored sources.

2. Set up the copy turn. Cast Momo on turn one when the mana and hand support the sequence. On turn two, cast Springleaf Drum before Sage of the Skies, then use Drum and your available land to pay Sage's reduced cost. Because Drum was another spell that turn, Sage copies itself and the copy becomes a token.

3. Turn Starfield Shepherd into a selection spell. Momo can reduce Starfield Shepherd's warp cost, and the Shepherd searches for a basic Plains or a creature with mana value 1 or less. Nurturing Pixie can return the Angel to your hand, and Pixie receives a +1/+1 counter when that return happens.

4. Choose when to reset a creature. Daydream can exile your Quantum Riddler and return it with a +1/+1 counter, causing its entry ability to draw another card. With one or fewer cards in hand, Riddler adds one card to that draw, and Daydream can be cast from the graveyard for {2}{W} before exile.

5. Convert the board into combat pressure. Practiced Offense can put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control and give one creature double strike or lifelink, while Abandoned Air Temple can put a counter on every creature you control for {3}{W} and a tap. Keep Erode, We Say Thee Nay!, or Aang, Swift Savior available when a spell or creature matters: their oracle text gives removal, countering, or airbending.

What Rotates Out in 2027

The 2027 rotation removes three main-deck names and two sideboard names from this aggregate list. Every other listed nonbasic card has at least one Standard-set printing in a set that stays.

Six sets leave Standard: Wilds of Eldraine, The Lost Caverns of Ixalan, Murders at Karlov Manor, Outlaws of Thunder Junction (with The Big Score), Bloomburrow, and Duskmourn: House of Horror. Wizards ties the rotation to the Prerelease of Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, which releases February 5, 2027. The Arena date is February 2, 2027, and no paper rotation day has been published. The other 14 Standard sets stay.

Tips for Piloting Azorius Momo

  • Use Momo's reduction on the turn it matters. The discount applies only to the first non-Lemur creature spell with flying you cast during each of your turns, so sequence Sage of the Skies, Starfield Shepherd, or another qualifying flyer before a later flying creature.
  • Cast Springleaf Drum before Sage. Sage copies itself only if another spell was cast earlier in the same turn. Drum also needs an untapped creature to activate, so the turn-two copy line depends on Momo still being available to tap.
  • Respect Nurturing Pixie's target restriction. Pixie can return a non-Faerie, nonland permanent you control, which includes Starfield Shepherd but excludes lands and Faeries. It gets a +1/+1 counter only if a permanent was returned.
  • Track Quantum Riddler's hand-size condition. The extra card applies while you have one or fewer cards in hand and a draw event occurs. Steamcore Scholar instead draws two, then asks you to discard two unless you discard an instant or sorcery or a creature card with flying.
  • Remember Erode's land clause. Erode destroys a target creature or planeswalker, but that permanent's controller may search for a basic land and put it onto the battlefield tapped. So it ramps your opponent.
  • Know the exact defensive text. Aang, Swift Savior has flash and can airbend up to one other target creature or spell, We Say Thee Nay! counters a spell unless its controller pays {2}, or {4} with teamwork, and Spider-Sense counters an instant, sorcery, or triggered ability.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Azorius Momo in Standard? Azorius Momo is a white-blue Standard flyers deck built around Momo, Friendly Flier, Springleaf Drum, and Sage of the Skies. Momo reduces the first qualifying flying creature spell during each of your turns, Drum adds mana by tapping a creature, and Sage can copy itself when another spell came first. The plan is early flying pressure plus value.

How does Azorius Momo win games? It wins through flying combat, not a single named finisher. The opening can create two Sage of the Skies bodies, while Momo grows when other flying creatures you control enter. Daydream, Practiced Offense, and Abandoned Air Temple add counters, and Quantum Riddler or Steamcore Scholar supply cards that keep the attack going.

What is the key Azorius Momo opening? The key opening is Momo, Friendly Flier on turn one, followed by Springleaf Drum and Sage of the Skies on turn two. Momo reduces Sage's cost, Drum supplies the needed mana after it enters, and Sage copies itself because Drum was another spell cast that turn. Wizards describes this as a pair of 2/3 flying lifelinkers.

What should I look for in an opening hand? Look for a hand that casts Momo on turn one and still reaches both colors. Floodfarm Verge makes {U} only with a Plains or Island, and Hallowed Fountain can enter untapped for 2 life. Springleaf Drum plus Sage of the Skies on turn two is the line the list is built around.

Which Azorius Momo cards rotate in 2027? At the early 2027 rotation, Floodfarm Verge, Steamcore Scholar, and Nurturing Pixie leave from the main deck list, while Rest in Peace and Disdainful Stroke leave from the sideboard. They are the only listed cards whose Standard-set printings are all in leaving sets. The other nonbasic cards have at least one printing in a set that stays.

What is in the Azorius Momo sideboard? The sideboard contains three Rest in Peace, two Spider-Sense, two Disdainful Stroke, two Flashfreeze, two Morningtide's Light, one Seam Rip, one Erode, one Island, and one Avatar's Wrath. Together the cards cover graveyard hate, counters, temporary exile, and airbending. Wizards publishes the list without a matchup plan, so treat it as an aggregate, not a tuned configuration.

How popular is Azorius Momo? Wizards ranked Azorius Momo fifth in the winner's metagame at 3.3%. The analysis covered more than 400 successful decks from Magic Online Standard Challenges and RCQ lists dated August 18 through August 31, 2026. Winner's metagame share combines popularity and net match wins, so 3.3% is not presented as a win rate.
