Jund Standard Deck Guide: Sackville-Bagginses Sacrifice

This Jund Standard deck is a black-red-green sacrifice shell built around The Sackville-Bagginses, Greedy Freebooter, Biotech Specialist, and Gene Pollinator. The plan is to turn creatures and artifacts into cards, Treasures, mana, and damage.
The published lists produced one first-place finish and three more top-eight finishes in five Magic Online Standard events after Reality Fracture entered the event schedule. The count below is a hand classification of published top-32 lists, not an official format label.
TL;DR: Jund Sacrifice appeared in 12 of 160 published top-32 decklists, or 7.5% of the sample. Those lists recorded four top-eight finishes, including first place on October 1 and third place in one October 2 event. The win route is to sacrifice creatures and artifacts for cards, Treasures, scry, or surveil, then turn the sacrificed-permanent count into Obsessive Pursuit counters, Rottenmouth Viper pressure, or a Treasure-powered attack.
Jund Standard deck: What It Is in Standard (quick answer)
Jund Sacrifice is a black-red-green Standard deck that treats creatures and artifacts as resources to spend. The Sackville-Bagginses, Greedy Freebooter, Biotech Specialist, Gene Pollinator, and Obsessive Pursuit make sacrifice actions produce cards, mana, damage, or attacking power. Its late turns use Lively Dirge, Rottenmouth Viper, and Treasure payoffs to convert those resources into a closing sequence.
Key Takeaways
- Jund Sacrifice was found in 12 of 160 published top-32 lists, a 7.5% share of that sample, with four top-eight finishes and one first-place finish.
- PIZZANGRY finished first of 34 players on October 1, while _MUST_BE_NICE finished third of 48 players in the second October 2 Standard Challenge 32.
- The core route is sacrifice first, then draw cards and make Treasures before attacking with Obsessive Pursuit or pressing with Rottenmouth Viper.
- Six cards in the best-placed list leave Standard in early 2027: Greedy Freebooter, Rottenmouth Viper, Blazemire Verge, Blooming Marsh, Lively Dirge, and Shoot the Sheriff.
- None of the cards in these Jund lists was first printed in Reality Fracture.
- Biotech Specialist, Gene Pollinator, Greedy Freebooter, The Sackville-Bagginses, and Obsessive Pursuit appeared in all 12 main decks.
Overview: Jund Standard deck After Reality Fracture
The sample contains 12 Jund Sacrifice lists out of 160 published top-32 decklists, for a 7.5% share. The event counts were two lists on October 1, three in the first October 2 event, four in the second October 2 event, one on October 4, and two in the October 5 special event. The published finishes were first, third, fourth, seventh, 13th, 15th, 18th, 18th, 20th, 21st, 25th, and 29th.
The five-event source covers Standard Challenge 16 on October 1 with 34 players, two Standard Challenge 32 events on October 2 with 45 and 48 players, Standard Challenge 16 on October 4 with 38 players, and Standard Challenge 32 Special on October 5 with 59 players. That is 224 entries, while the event pages publish 32 decklists each. “Share” means share of those 160 lists, not the full event field or a win rate.
The sorting rule was hand-applied by the BaseMTG author: a black-red-green list qualified if it played The Sackville-Bagginses, Greedy Freebooter, or Lively Dirge. It is not an official classification. Reality Fracture's paper release was October 2, and 20 of its 48 set-only cards already appeared in the October 1 lists overall, but none of these Jund cards was first printed in that set. For three-color mana requirements, compare the mana base guide; the two-color cousin is the Rakdos Standard deck guide. Best-placed main deck:

The best-placed list has 38 nonland cards and 22 lands. Mana values come from Scryfall.

Why Jund Standard deck Works
The list runs on three things: sacrifices create resources, the sacrifice count changes combat, and the graveyard plus Treasures set up the next turn.
The Sackville-Bagginses, Greedy Freebooter and Biotech Specialist
eoe-214
eoe-214Shop on TCGplayer, each played as a four-of in the best-placed list.
Sacrifice creates cards, mana, and damage
When The Sackville-Bagginses enters, you may sacrifice another creature or artifact to draw a card and create a Treasure. Whenever you sacrifice a token, a target opponent also loses 1 life. A Treasure, Clue, Lander, or other token can therefore pay an artifact sacrifice cost while also causing the life-loss trigger.
Greedy Freebooter rewards a different sacrifice window. When it dies, you scry 1 and create a Treasure, so a blocked attack or a sacrifice to The Sackville-Bagginses leaves mana and card selection behind. Callous Inspector creates a Clue when it dies, but its death also deals 1 damage to its controller.
Biotech Specialist enters by creating a Lander token. Whenever an artifact is sacrificed, Biotech Specialist deals 2 damage to a target opponent. Gene Pollinator
eoe-186
eoe-186Shop on TCGplayer taps itself and another untapped permanent you control to add one mana of any color. A Lander, Treasure, or Clue can then matter to both development and sacrifice count.
Sacrifices become attacking power
Obsessive Pursuit costs 1 life and creates a Clue when it enters and at the beginning of your upkeep. Whenever you attack, you put X +1/+1 counters on a target attacking creature, where X is the number of permanents sacrificed that turn. At three or more, that creature also gains lifelink until end of turn.
This gives the deck a reason to sequence sacrifices before combat. The Sackville-Bagginses can turn one creature or artifact into a card and Treasure, Umbral Collar Zealot
eoe-123
eoe-123Shop on TCGplayer can sacrifice another creature or artifact to Surveil 1, and a later attack can count those actions for Obsessive Pursuit.
The same material can support Rottenmouth Viper. As an additional cost you may sacrifice any number of nonland permanents, and the spell costs {1} less for each one. When it enters or attacks, it gets a blight counter. Then, for each blight counter on it, each opponent loses 4 life unless that player sacrifices a nonland permanent or discards a card.
Treasures and the graveyard extend the sequence
Lively Dirge is a Spree sorcery with two optional modes. The +{1} option searches the library for a card and puts it into the graveyard. The +{2} option returns up to two creature cards with total mana value 4 or less from the graveyard to the battlefield.
Treasures also change the red half of the list. Each time a lore counter is added, The Misty Mountains Cold creates a Treasure. Then, if you control four or more Treasures, you sacrifice it and create a 6/6 red Dragon creature token with flying. Smaug the Magnificent has flying and haste, creates a Treasure at upkeep, and deals damage equal to the Treasure count to any target when it attacks.
Step-by-Step: How to Play Jund Standard deck
1. Establish a sacrifice object. Identify which creature or artifact can be spent without losing the next turn's function. The Sackville-Bagginses and Umbral Collar Zealot accept either type, so choose the outlet that matches the card or Treasure you need next.
2. Count the artifacts before spending them. Biotech Specialist deals 2 damage to a target opponent whenever an artifact is sacrificed, and The Sackville-Bagginses makes a target opponent lose 1 life whenever a token is sacrificed. Check a Lander, Treasure, or Clue for both triggers before using it for mana or a card.
3. Build the graveyard and mana together. Gene Pollinator taps itself and another untapped permanent to add one mana of any color, while Greedy Freebooter creates a Treasure and scries 1 when it dies. Lively Dirge can then put a card into the graveyard or return up to two qualifying creatures.
4. Sacrifice before attacking when the payoff is ready. Obsessive Pursuit counts permanents sacrificed during the current turn and puts that many +1/+1 counters on a target attacking creature. At three sacrifices, the creature also gains lifelink, so sequence The Sackville-Bagginses, Umbral Collar Zealot, or a Treasure first.
5. Convert the large turn into a closer. Use Rottenmouth Viper's optional sacrifice cost when it also leaves the opponent facing blight counters. Alternatively, build to four Treasures for The Misty Mountains Cold's Dragon token, or attack with Smaug the Magnificent.

What Rotates Out in 2027
At the early 2027 Standard rotation, Wilds of Eldraine, The Lost Caverns of Ixalan, Murders at Karlov Manor, Outlaws of Thunder Junction including The Big Score, Bloomburrow, and Duskmourn: House of Horror leave Standard.
| Card | Printed in Standard only in |
|---|---|
| Greedy Freebooter | The Lost Caverns of Ixalan |
| Rottenmouth Viper | Bloomburrow |
| Blazemire Verge | Duskmourn: House of Horror |
| Blooming Marsh | Outlaws of Thunder Junction |
| Lively Dirge | Outlaws of Thunder Junction |
| Shoot the Sheriff | Outlaws of Thunder Junction |
This list treats a card as leaving only when all of its Standard-set printings are in a leaving set. Bonus-sheet and promo printings were not checked. The posted main deck therefore loses Greedy Freebooter, Rottenmouth Viper, Blazemire Verge, Blooming Marsh, and Lively Dirge, while the sideboard loses Shoot the Sheriff. That removes a death-trigger Treasure, a sacrifice-cost creature, several listed mana sources, a graveyard spell, and a non-outlaw creature answer from this exact configuration.
Rotation is alongside the Prerelease of Nauctis: The Sunken Realm. The Arena date is February 2, 2027, the release date is February 5, 2027, and no paper day has been published.
Tips for Piloting Jund Standard deck
- Track sacrifice types. The Sackville-Bagginses accepts another creature or artifact, while its life-loss trigger cares specifically about tokens. A non-token creature pays the first cost but cannot create the token trigger by itself.
- Protect the attack count. Obsessive Pursuit checks permanents sacrificed this turn, not the game total. For three or more, sequence the actions before attacking and choose the creature that receives the counters.
- Use Lively Dirge deliberately. The +{1} mode puts a card from the library into the graveyard, and the +{2} mode returns up to two creatures with total mana value 4 or less. Choose based on the graveyard and available mana.
- Treat life as a listed cost. Obsessive Pursuit loses 1 life on entry and upkeep, and Callous Inspector deals 1 damage on death. Requiting Hex can pay its blight cost to gain 2 life after destroying a creature with mana value 2 or less.
- Count Treasures before red attacks. Smaug the Magnificent deals damage equal to the Treasure count when it attacks. The Misty Mountains Cold needs four or more Treasures after its lore trigger to create its 6/6 red Dragon creature token.
- Match sideboard text to the target. Duress chooses a noncreature, nonland card from a revealed hand, Strategic Betrayal exiles a creature and that opponent's graveyard, and Shoot the Sheriff destroys a non-outlaw creature.
