4c Control Standard Deck Guide: 5 Top 8s, 13 Lists

The 4c Control Standard deck put 5 of its 13 top-32 lists into the top eight across nine Magic Online Standard events played October 1 to October 7, 2026, but none of the 13 won. That is a 38.5% top-eight rate against 27.0% for all 267 lists, the third highest of the ten archetype labels with 10 or more lists.
The deck has almost no creatures. The best-placed list runs 29 instants and sorceries among 34 nonland cards and a single creature, and it is a Jeskai (red-white-blue) deck with a black splash for one card. This guide covers what the 13 lists share, the sixth-place list in full, and how little of it rotates in 2027.
TL;DR: BaseMTG's classification finds 13 four-color control lists (white, blue, black and red) among 267 top-32 decklists: five top-eight finishes and no win. All 13 run 4 Jeskai Revelation, 4 Inevitable Defeat, 4 Tablet of Discovery and 4 Great Hall of the Biblioplex. Black appears in one nonland card, Inevitable Defeat. Only 9 of the 60 cards in the best list rotate out in early 2027.
4c Control Standard Deck: What It Is (quick answer)
The 4c Control Standard deck in this sample is a spell-heavy control list built around Jeskai Revelation and Inevitable Defeat, with draw spells to find them, plus Tablet of Discovery and Great Hall of the Biblioplex for mana. Its four colors come from one black card.
BaseMTG labels a list 4c Control when its nonland spells use white, blue, black and red. The label is a hand classification, not an official one.
Key Takeaways
- 4c Control appears in 13 of 267 top-32 lists, or 4.9%, with 5 top-eight finishes and no first place. The placements were 6, 7, 7, 8, 8, 13, 14, 15, 16, 25, 25, 26, 28.
- Ten nonbasic cards appear in all 13 lists. Four of them are four-ofs in every list: Jeskai Revelation, Inevitable Defeat, Tablet of Discovery and Great Hall of the Biblioplex.
- The best list, hermanomlg's sixth place from October 2, has 1 creature, 29 instants and sorceries, and 26 lands.
- Black is a splash: the only black nonland card in the best list is Inevitable Defeat.
- Only four nonbasic cards in the best list leave Standard in early 2027, which is 9 of its 60 cards.
- The first Standard metagame report after Reality Fracture counted this label with 160 lists; this guide uses the 267 lists through October 7.
Overview: 4c Control Standard Deck After Reality Fracture
The sample is nine Magic Online Standard events from October 1 to October 7, 2026. Each event page publishes its top-32 decklists, or every decklist when fewer than 32 players entered, giving 267 lists. The 13 four-color control lists came from these events: Standard Challenge 16 on October 1 (34 players): 2; Standard Challenge 32 on October 2 (48 players): 1; Standard Challenge 32 Special on October 5 (59 players): 3; Standard Challenge 16 Special on October 6 (24 players): 1; Standard Challenge 32 Special on October 6 (44 players): 1; Standard Challenge 16 Special on October 7 (27 players): 4; Standard Challenge 16 Special on October 7 (24 players): 1. They came from 10 different players.
The lists are close to each other. Five of the 13 have an identical 60-card main deck, finishing 7 (_Batutinha_), 13 (peter780108), 14 (_Batutinha_), 16 (hyde1234), 25 (SorryImSoTilted). The other eight include one more identical pair and six one-off lists.
The sixth-place list has 34 nonland cards and 26 lands. Eleven of the nonland cards cost 2, and the five at 6 or more are 4 Jeskai Revelation and 1 Together as One. Mana values come from Scryfall. Image: BaseMTG chart from the mtgo.com decklists, mana values from Scryfall.
GODEEPER: The four-color mana only works if the lands cooperate, and this list runs 17 different lands. MTG Mana Base Guide →
Why the 4c Control Standard Deck Works
The card types show the plan: 29 of the 34 nonland cards in the best list are instants or sorceries, and the four-ofs are Jeskai Revelation, Inevitable Defeat, Tablet of Discovery and Great Hall of the Biblioplex.
Jeskai Revelation costs {4}{U}{R}{W} and does five things at instant speed: it returns a target spell or permanent to its owner's hand, deals 4 damage to any target, creates two 1/1 Monk tokens with prowess, draws two cards and gains 4 life. All four copies are in every list. Inevitable Defeat costs {1}{R}{W}{B}, can't be countered, and exiles a target nonland permanent while its controller loses 3 life and you gain 3.

Great Hall of the Biblioplex taps for {C}, or for 1 life makes one mana of any color, but that mana can only cast an instant or sorcery spell. With 29 instants and sorceries in the best list, the restriction matters little. Tablet of Discovery mills a card when it enters and lets you play that card this turn, taps for {R}, or taps for {R}{R} when the mana is spent on an instant or sorcery.
Stock Up looks at the top five cards and puts two in your hand. Consult the Star Charts
eoe-51
eoe-51Shop on TCGplayer looks at as many cards as you have lands and takes one, or two if kicked. Plunder the Trollshaws draws a card, or two if cast from a graveyard, and has flashback. Together as One costs {6} and draws, deals damage and gains life equal to the number of colors spent on it.
Black is only a splash
The label says four colors, but the best list has one black card. Inevitable Defeat is the only nonland card with a black mana symbol, so black exists to cast four copies of one spell. The other spells in the best list are red, white and blue, or colorless.
Removal and Day of Judgment
Lightning Helix deals 3 damage to any target and gains 3 life. Firebending Lesson deals 2 damage to a target creature, or 5 if kicked with {4}. Day of Judgment destroys all creatures, and the best list has only one creature, North Wind Avatar. Flashback lets a target instant or sorcery card in your graveyard be cast again for its mana cost.

What Reality Fracture Adds
Not much. Multiply by Zero, which gives a target creature base power and toughness 0/0 until end of turn, appears in 6 of the 13 lists at 2.0 copies on average. Uldaros Theorix appears in 1. The core of the deck comes from Tarkir: Dragonstorm (Jeskai Revelation, Inevitable Defeat), Secrets of Strixhaven (Tablet of Discovery, Great Hall of the Biblioplex) and Aetherdrift (Stock Up).
Step-by-Step: How to Play 4c Control in Standard
1. Dig early with the two-mana draw. Consult the Star Charts, Plunder the Trollshaws and Stock Up find the lands and answers the deck needs. Consult looks at as many cards as you have lands, so it improves as the game goes on.
2. Keep removal for what matters. Lightning Helix costs two mana and hits any target. Firebending Lesson costs one and only hits a creature. Day of Judgment destroys all creatures, and the best list has just the one.
3. Build toward seven mana and the right colors. Jeskai Revelation needs {U}, {R} and {W} as well as four generic mana. Tablet of Discovery taps for {R} or, for instants and sorceries, {R}{R}, and Great Hall adds any color for 1 life.
4. Use Inevitable Defeat as the clean answer. It can't be countered and exiles any nonland permanent, so it answers any permanent that is not a land. Check that you have a black source first.
5. Close with Jeskai Revelation or Together as One. Jeskai Revelation answers a spell or permanent, kills or damages, makes two 1/1 Monk tokens with prowess and refills your hand, all in one instant. Together as One scales with the number of colors you spend.
4c Control Standard Deck Decklist (60 Cards and 15 Sideboard)
This is hermanomlg's sixth-place deck from the Standard Challenge 32 on October 2, 2026, a 48-player event (MTGO event page). The same player placed seventh on October 5 with a 59-player field, but this was the better finish.
Main deck, 60 cards
- Spells, 34: 3 Consult the Star Charts, 2 Day of Judgment, 2 Firebending Lesson, 2 Flashback, 4 Inevitable Defeat, 4 Jeskai Revelation, 3 Lightning Helix, 3 No More Lies, 1 North Wind Avatar, 2 Plunder the Trollshaws, 3 Stock Up, 4 Tablet of Discovery, 1 Together as One.
- Lands, 26: 1 Blazemire Verge, 1 Blood Crypt, 1 Cori Mountain Monastery, 1 Deserted Beach, 2 Gloomlake Verge, 2 Godless Shrine, 4 Great Hall of the Biblioplex, 2 Hallowed Fountain, 1 Island, 1 Mistrise Village, 1 Plains, 2 Sacred Foundry, 1 Shattered Sanctum, 3 Steam Vents, 1 Stormcarved Coast, 1 Sunbillow Verge, 1 Sundown Pass.
Sideboard, 15 cards
- Cards: 1 Ancient Vendetta, 1 Deadly Cover-Up, 2 Fire Magic, 2 Flashfreeze, 3 Get Lost, 1 Outrageous Robbery, 2 Return the Favor, 2 Strategic Betrayal, 1 Thor, God of Thunder.
Across all 13 lists, the sideboard cards that appear most are Return the Favor (12 lists), Ancient Vendetta and Outrageous Robbery (11 each), Deadly Cover-Up (8), and Flashfreeze, Day of Black Sun, Torpor Orb and Duress (7 each). These are inclusion counts. The lists give no data on which matchups the cards were boarded in.
What Rotates Out in 2027
Standard rotation happens once per year after the first premier set Prerelease of the year, when the six oldest sets leave. The Standard format page lists those six as Duskmourn: House of Horror, Bloomburrow, Outlaws of Thunder Junction with The Big Score, Murders at Karlov Manor, The Lost Caverns of Ixalan and Wilds of Eldraine. The 2027 rotation timing has its own guide.
| Card | Role | Copies | Printed in Standard only in |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blazemire Verge | Land | 1 | Duskmourn: House of Horror |
| Gloomlake Verge | Land | 2 | Duskmourn: House of Horror |
| Lightning Helix | Removal | 3 | Murders at Karlov Manor |
| No More Lies | Counterspell | 3 | Murders at Karlov Manor |
Four nonbasic cards in the main deck leave, 9 of 60 cards, and the rest have a printing in a set that stays. A card is listed as leaving only when all of its Standard-set printings are in a leaving set; the sideboard was not counted, and bonus-sheet and promo printings were not checked.
Tips for Piloting 4c Control in Standard
-
Pay attention to Great Hall's limit. Its any-color mana can only be spent on an instant or sorcery, so it can't fix mana for Tablet of Discovery or North Wind Avatar.
-
Mistrise Village makes the next spell uncounterable. For {U} and {T}, the next spell you cast this turn can't be countered. It enters tapped unless you control a Mountain or a Forest.
-
Don't count Together as One as a cheap spell. It costs {6}, and X is the number of colors of mana spent, so it needs the colors as well as the mana.
-
Know the sideboard plan only as inclusion. Ancient Vendetta names a card and exiles up to four copies from an opponent's graveyard, hand and library. Torpor Orb stops creatures entering from triggering abilities.
What Players Are Saying About 4c Control
The closest community discussion is an r/spikes thread from October 2, 2026 asking whether planeswalker decks are back in Standard. One commenter wrote, “Currently testing a small planeswalker package in tablet control deck with 4x defeat and 4x revelation” (leonalightmyfire), which is the Tablet of Discovery, Inevitable Defeat and Jeskai Revelation core that every list in this guide plays. The comment is embedded below.
Another commenter described the removal the deck sits in: “1/2 mana spot removal and 3/4/5 mana board wipes are plentiful right now.” (ExtremeNebula729). That is one player's read of the Arena queue, not a measurement.
Our Take on 4c Control
Based on the figures above, 4c Control has a lower ceiling than its play rate suggests: 5 top-eight finishes from 13 lists, no first place, and a best finish of sixth. Every list shares the same four-of core, so there is little to tune between lists. The deck's single creature and its black splash both come from the data, not from opinion.
If you want to play it, the numbers support the best list's shape and its low rotation cost, since only 9 of its 60 cards leave in early 2027. They do not show that it beats the decks that won. That is our judgment, drawn from the lists above and the community comments quoted in this section.
Method and Data Checks
We read the nine Magic Online Standard event pages for October 1 to 7, 2026, counted every list with two independent parsers, and matched each number in this guide to a quoted line from its source (the mtgo.com event pages, Scryfall, and Wizards of the Coast's rules and format pages). The Reddit comments were read on the original thread. The deck label is BaseMTG's own classification, so another tracker may group the same lists differently.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the 4c Control Standard deck? It's a white-blue-black-red control list that runs 29 instants and sorceries and one creature in its best list, built around four Jeskai Revelation, four Inevitable Defeat, four Tablet of Discovery and four Great Hall of the Biblioplex. BaseMTG labels a list 4c Control by its colors; the label is not official.
How many 4c Control lists made the top 32? Thirteen of the 267 published top-32 decklists from nine Magic Online Standard events played October 1 to 7, 2026, which is 4.9% of the sample. Five reached the top eight and none won, a 38.5% top-eight rate against 27.0% for all 267 lists.
Is 4c Control really a four-color deck? It uses four colors, but black is a splash. In the best list the only nonland card with a black mana symbol is Inevitable Defeat, four copies. The best list's lands include Blood Crypt, Godless Shrine and Shattered Sanctum, and the rest of its spells are red, white, blue or colorless.
What are the key cards in 4c Control? Jeskai Revelation, Inevitable Defeat, Tablet of Discovery and Great Hall of the Biblioplex are four-ofs in all 13 lists. Stock Up (13 lists), Flashback (13), Consult the Star Charts (12) and Together as One (12) also appear in nearly every list.
What rotates from 4c Control in 2027? In the best list, four nonbasic cards leave: Blazemire Verge, Gloomlake Verge, Lightning Helix and No More Lies, which is 9 of 60 cards. Each is printed in Standard only in a leaving set. Jeskai Revelation, Inevitable Defeat, Tablet of Discovery and Great Hall of the Biblioplex all stay.
Does 4c Control play creatures? Barely. The best list runs one creature, North Wind Avatar, and 29 instants and sorceries among 34 nonland cards. Day of Judgment, which destroys all creatures, is in 5 of the 13 lists, and Deadly Cover-Up is in the sideboard of 8.
Why has 4c Control not won an event? The sample can't say. It has 13 lists, five top-eight finishes and no win, but the event pages publish only decklists and final ranks, with no match records. The deck's best finish was 6th, and 13 lists is too few to read a missing win as weakness.
